Niam Hocaine, founder and food writer

Niam Hocaine is a food blogger and the person behind Tacos Near You. The site grew out of a simple frustration: landing in a new city and not being able to quickly find a taqueria worth the drive. Niam writes and edits the taco guides, the style breakdowns and the ranking method on this site, and built the directory as the resource that did not exist yet: real listings, one published ranking method, and no paid placement.

To be straight about it: I have not eaten at all 15,049 of these places, and nobody could. What this site does is take real, public map data and structure it, read the reviews so you do not have to, and rank each spot by a method I publish in full. The guides, the style breakdowns and the ranking formula are written and maintained by me.

Where the data comes from

Venue listings are built from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed ODbL. Every listing can be traced back to its source record and corrected there. Ratings, review counts and opening hours, where shown, come from public place data and are attributed on the page. Reference material on taco types and chains is compiled and cited on each guide.

How listings are ranked

Rankings follow a fixed, published formula: see How We Rank. It weighs how taco-focused a place is, whether its listing checks out against public data, and how complete its details are; when star ratings are available they lead, weighted by review count. No business can pay to rank higher or to be removed. Anything that changes week to week (hours, prices, deals) is linked to its source rather than stated as fact.
